Friday 12/ 31

LAST DAY OF 2010!

Today I ran for 65 minutes on an adventure into Natick. I was originally going to do a Glen loop, but they did not plow Weston Rd. Instead I ran by Rivers and into Natick. I ended up by rt. 9, but decided to stay safe and not cross it so I ran back and magically ended up by Overbrook. Then I ran down beechwood and around behind Bates. I did 6 strides at the parking lot there and headed home. It got dark, and by the reservation there was this tree stump that looked like a person in a cloak, and it freaked me out. Overall everything felt good during this run.

Thursday 12/30

Today we went to reggie lewis for a work out.
15 minute warm up on the streets of boston. The streets were relatively clear and we ran into the Northeastern campus.
For the work out we ran 20 200s at 1000 pace. I ran 43s and hit that split time pretty consistently. I felt very smooth and the work out was a perfect pace and it was a decent effort, but not too hard.
15 minute cool down. Everything felt good. I really enjoy workouts at reggie.

Wednesday 12/29

15 warm up.
One set of canadians with 8 strides after. Everything felt pretty good. I felt my hip a little on springing and shins on scissors but it was manageable.
15 cool down then yankee swap! I got a nice Dunkin' Donuts gift card out of it!

Tuesday 12/28

I was snowed in for the past couple of days.

Today we ran 8x400s on Washington Street with jog back recovery.
15 up and down.
The 400s started out feeling good but by the end my shin was really bothering me.
Splits were 97, 91, 89, 90, 90, 89, 86, 86. The first one was run on the sidewalk, where traction wasn't that great, and the rest were run in the street.

Friday 12/23

Happy Christmas Eve!

Today Sarah, Sabina and I ran FJ. We went for about 53 minutes. The trails were very snowy, and so was the track when we attempted to do strides. Everything felt very good today and so far my hip has not been sore! After the run we did 6 strides in the parking lot.

Thursday 12/23

2 days.
15 minute warm up, everything felt good. I was dreading this workout after hearing rumors that we shouldn't have eaten a lot and being told I was going to see the chocolate I ate last block again...

For the workout today I spent a little over 30 minutes on temple hill. We ran up it with a hard effort and jogged down. My hip felt surprisingly good, by the middle it was a little hard to lift but definitely not as bad as other times and by the end my entire legs got very tired.

16 cool down. My hip felt totally fine, but we will see if there are any adverse effects tomorrow.

Wednesday 12/22

Today I ran with Sarah, Brennan, Allie, James, Chandler and Dan. We had a wonderful adventure through the winter wonderland of Morses Pond. It reminded me of why I love New England winters so much. Total running time was 65 minutes plus 6 strides. Everything felt fine today, except by the end I felt my shin because we had been running on pavement.

Tuesday 12/21

Winter Solstice - longest day of the year!

15 warm up.
Last circuts! Today we did them inside, with wall sits! and then ran 4 400s outside. Some exercises were a strain on my hip and in the beginning of the cool down, I felt it a little, but it went away by the end.
15 cool down.

Monday 12/20

FIRST SNOW OF THE WINTER!!!!!

15 minutes up. I thought we were going to Babson today, so I only had shorts and sweatpants. Luckily Brennan lives close to the high school, so we went to her house and got some snow gear.

Workout: 1xmile (7:40) 1x1000 (4:40) 4x400 (1:45)
Felt like a little bit faster than long run pace. Hip felt a bit tired at the end. The goal of this work out was to pace, and I think I paced pretty well.

15 minute cool down.

Waking Pulse: 60(?) I took it twice because I did not believe it could have fallen so low...I'm pretty sure I was counting right and I timed with my watch.

Sunday 12/19

Day Off.
My hip was a little sore last night but everything feels fine today!

Saturday 12/18

HILLLLLLSSSS....
15 warm up around Elm Bank....reminds me of cross

30 Minutes on the hill. Bounding, springing and high knees up, stride the top and jog down. My hip felt totally fine on the drills (much better than last saturday) but by the end the strides were tiring. What I learned today is I need to stay focused and execute drills better to maintain my form.

15 Minute Cool Down. When we started, my hip was sore but it loosened up by the end of the cool down.

Friday 12/17

65 plus 6 strides

Today we ran in a large group to bebe meadow, through blue arrow trail past the small castle and into Babson. Then we introduced Kevin to spontaneous running as we ran through the golf course to Centennial and back to the high school. Everything felt very good today, we stretched about 20 minutes in and it was a very fun and relaxing run.

Morning Heart Rate: 72 (I actually took it today!)

RACE DAY

15 Minute Warm Up. I don't remember typically warming up outside unless I was running the 2 mile, but I guess times change. We ran on the streets outside Reggie for a bit more than 15.

Race: 1000 m. Honestly, I could have gone harder. I guess I can't be too disappointed since I haven't raced in so long. Oh how I've missed Reggie Lewis and the reggie cough! I thought my first lap was good and I didn't sprint out like some Norwood girl ahead of me. Then I fell asleep the next 3 laps until I noticed the girl in front of me had horrible form and I thought "why am I losing to this girl? She runs horribly." So I preceded to pick it up on the final lap and I passed a few people. I did not PR, which I think is quite sad, but I will do better next time and that means there is lots of room for improvement. Positives of my race: I finished (haha), I didn't injure myself and I ran a nice tangent. Things to work on include pacing, pushing myself and accepting pain (which admittedly I am afraid of ever since stress fractures). I can't wait for the next meet so I can do much better!

16 Minute Cool Down around Reggie. Everything generally felt good today. Well, I felt my shins on the warm up, but my hip was okay!

Morning Heart Rate: I actually think I dreamt taking my pulse, because I don't think I actually did but as I was waking up I remember reaching for my watch so I could time it and trying to find the pulse on my neck. The morning is a very rough time.

Goals!

Sarah and I decided to write down our goals because nothing was happening on the main blog.

Short Term: Well, to start off, tomorrow I would like to PR. I think that is a reasonable goal because my PR is from freshman year and I certainly hope I got better! Also, I would like to work hard and do well in workouts and to make sure I don't get injured again (I am watching my hip, knee and shins).

Mid Term: Stay injury free! I was thinking about it, and I have never finished a full season during my high school career...except for cross country and indoor freshman year (but that doesn't really count). Other than that, this season ideally I would qualify for states in the 1000, mile and 2 mile. Perhaps this is too much, but I can't really put into a blog how sick and tired I am of being injured and how much I really really just want to run and be good. So, I certainly hope I can do that, but if not just one will suffice! So to sum it all up: stay healthy and run at states.

Long Term: Stay healthy (again) and continue on and have an awesome outdoor season. Then summer train right and have an even better cross country season and continue with indoor and outdoor and meet all my goals there. Then, depending on my times and the schools I apply to possibly run in college. Beyond that, continue the running life style and run a marathon!

Wednesday 12/15

53 Minutes + 6 Strides.

Today we ran a nice Waban loop--probably the last time this season if it snows soon. Everything felt pretty good today. Just anticipating the race tomorrow and I don't know what to expect because I haven't raced in 6 months. The 1000 1 mile switch kinda threw me for a loop, but I am ready, excited and nervous--can't wait to get back to reggie lewis!

Tuesday 12/14

15 Minute Warm Up. My new shoes felt great today!

Workout: Circuts: 2 ab sets, 2 running sets and 4 400s in between each set. Everything felt pretty good, I was just tired today. During specific drills like the eagle one, V sits and 6 inches of fun my hip flexor was sore and hard to lift. Other than that, the strides and 400s felt great.

15 Minute Cool Down. It was below freezing so we ran into the school and hopped on the treadmills.

Monday 12/13

16 Minute Warm Up to Babson. I wore my old sneakers because I thought it was supposed to be very wet and rainy. It was quite warm out and not raining at all, so that was a bad decision to wear my old shoes because my calf/shins started to ache a bit.

The workout today was 1x1000, 2x800, 2x400 at the Babson indoor track. The 1000 felt nice and relaxed, it was really good to get back into the racing on the track mentality. During the last 800 I felt my hip a bit, and my calf continued to bother me, so basically those shoes are worn out.

19 Minute Cool Down. So close to the 20 minutes Sarah wanted! This felt much better than the warm up and work out, so I guess I loosened up.

Morning Heart Rate: forgot to take it because I was running late for the bus...

Saturday 12/11

15 Minute Warm Up. I ran around the neighborhood looking for Bennett, and ended up just running to Bates and starting the hills myself.

23 Minutes of Hill Drills. I did these on the hill at Kelly Field next to Bates. The hill was not as good as the one at Elm Bank, it was flatter and longer. So in the future if I have to miss practices, I will take the drive to Elm Bank. Like last week, my hip felt weak during the sprints. Other than that, the weather was very nice today! It felt like spring!

15 Minute Cool Down.

Friday 12/10

16 Minute Warm Up. A bit of a fast paced one down the Brook Path and back. I was feeling some effects of our work out yesterday in the beginning, but then it went away.

Canadians + 6 strides . The drills felt better than they did last week. We were inside due to the cold, and my shins did not enjoy the tile and cement floor. It was also kind of hard to get traction for the strides. I guess that is better than getting frost bite though!

16 Minute Cool Down. It was dark out, so we had to stick to where street lights were. The cool down felt better than the warm up and my hip was fine.

Thursday 12/9

15 Minute Warm Up.

Our workout today was flows on the complex. I felt very good during the workout, even during the long piece. In the middle, my hip was bothering me a little because it was tight and hard to lift, but that went away and the long piece was relatively enjoyable.

17 Minute Cool Down. Bennett and I ran down the Brook Path and stretched half way through. My legs were kind of tired, but that was most likely because we did a workout.

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Wednesday 12/8

Today I ran for 50 minutes plus 6 strides.

Bennett and I ran down leafy and back, then did strides on the track with jog back recovery. It was a bit cold out, luckily I have warm clothes! The run in general felt very good, my hip did not bother me at all! However, the large lunch I ate did not sit well, I should have learned by now...
Anyways, I am looking forward to flows tomorrow and in a week from now freaking out about the race!!!
